F.A.Q.’s

I see you have been at school quite a long time now, when will you finish?

Spring (June) of 2010.

Why a Philosophy and Classics double major?

Everything interesting, significant and articulate is in the form of what actually is philosophy, although this ubiquitous use of philosophy as a “framework” for everything is always taken for granted.  Subsequently the use of philosophy as a “framework” is not reflected upon, so that while it can be said that everyone has a philosophy, most have a very shallow one.

Classics is the very best of the accumulated literature and wisdom of people whose devotion, unhindered by television, movies, radio, or the internet, was centered on creating works of everlasting aesthetic, intellectual and moral worth.

What do you plan to do with that?

Ply my hand at wit.

Isn’t Classics as a field outdated since the 1800’s?

No, we as a people are outdated from our own evaluation of the significance of history.

You have humanities majors, why do you have to take Chemistry and Physics?

Because an education should include a cursory and broad capability in all subjects of human knowledge.  As a reflection of this, my college, Revelle, requires this of all students.

I didn’t like Plato.

That’s not a question, and more to the point, you have no soul.

  1. I am a high school senior considering UCLA and UCSD for undergrad. I plan to be a Philosophy major and follow the pre med track. I am also interested in the Classics. Could you tell me about your experience at UCSD? Any information would be appreciated. (: Thanks in advance
